Description Prop65

The TLD500 (L13005099-P) Vulkan Loktracer Hydrogen Leak Detector is a revolutionary new method of leak detection. This new system incorporates a readily available trace gas of 5% hydrogen for pinpointing leaks which would normally be difficult to find using traditional methods of leak detection. Generally the best hand held leak detectors today only sense leaks of about 1/10th oz a year loss, this new system has an accuracy of approximately 1/100th of an oz. a year leak rate. One of the greatest advantages of this new method is the leak detector reacts solely to Hydrogen and is not triggered by other gases in the shop so nuisance alarms are almost non-existent. The Trace gas kit is easy to use and portable enough for any job; simply pressurize the empty A/C system with trace gas and perform leak detection with the TLD500 as normal, when the job is finished the system may be safely vented to atmosphere and vacuum / charge as usual. The unit comes as a stand alone leak detector or packaged with cylinder cart, gas regulator, manifold and hoses for automotive use. See our line of HVAC units as well.
Why Use Loktracer
One of the most important tasks in automotive air conditioning service is leak detection. In many cases a lack of refrigerant is the reason for a decreasing performance of the A/C system. Before recharging the A/C system the service technician needs to identify whether the loss of refrigerant came ‘naturally’ due to the age of the A/C system or because there is a leak.

The three most commonly used methods of leak detection are:
  1. Leak detection with electronic leak detectors.
(Requires a complete charge of refrigerant before checking and a recovery of gas to repair and then a second charge to complete the job, very time consuming)
  2. Leak detection with Nitrogen and or refrigerant trace gas using leak detection or soap bubbles.
(Requires pressurization, testing, and due to low amount of refrigerant used leaks can be difficult to find with electronic leak detectors, cannot find evaporator leaks easily)
  3. UV leak detection methods.
(Requires a complete charge of refrigerant before checking, the technician must inject dye, run the system long enough to create a visible leak usually requiring the customer to return for a second visit, then recover the system completely to repair)
AND NOW Tracer gas leak detection.
Loktrace gas is a specific mixture consisting of 95% nitrogen and 5% hydrogen charged into the system. Hydrogen molecules are the smallest naturally occurring particles. Thus very small leaks can be traced. It is non-flammable, non-toxic, non-corrosive, and does not harm the environment and is easily obtained. It can be vented to the atmosphere safely and legally when the job is done. The Loktracer reacts almost exclusively to hydrogen. This means leak detection is extremely reliable and fast.

The evaporator can be easily checked through the ventilation slots in the console

Product Features
Advantages of the trace gas leak detection method:
  • No cross sensitivities to other gases
  • Because Hydrogen molecules are very small, the unit detects the smallest of leaks
  • Easily check an evaporator for leaks from within the passenger compartment of the car
  • Because of the Acute accuracy of the trace gas, you save time on every job
  • Light weight portable hand held unit
